Helena lyrics
Long ago
Just like the hearse you died to get in again
We are so far from you
Burning on just like a match you start to incinerate
The lives of everyone you knew
And whats the worst to take, from every heart you break (heart you break)
And like a blade you stain
Well I've been holding on tonight
[Chorus]
Whats the worst that I could say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
Came a time
When every star fall brought you to tears again
We are the very hurt you sold
And whats the worst you take, from every heart you break
And like a blade you stain
Well I've been holding on tonight
[Chorus]
Whats the worst that I could say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
Can you hear me?
Are you near me?
Can we pretend to leave
and meet again
When both our cars collide?
[Chorus]
Whats the worst that I could say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

From just reading the lyrics I'd say it's about the speaker coping with the death of someone they loved who caused them a great amount of grief in their life. While the speaker hurting from the loss a part of him is glad to see her go.Rating:

On second thought jclani's post has a lot of merit."What's the worst that I could say? Things are better if I stayed."
But I'd like to add that it seems possible that the speaker had the intention of never killing himself and the song is his weak apology to the girl he convinced into suicide. (And he did this because she was causing him grief, like I said before.)

Considering everything that's written above, and not to mention that the video, would without argument, agree with Roguekarma, I think you guys are looking into this way too much in the sense where this song within itself is too vague to be taken literal. Death in music, more often than not, is a metaphor. In modern rock ("emo", "screamo", "post/hardcore",etc..), they somehow resort to violence and predictably death, but no one ever really dies. Feel me? I know this is site for opinions, because in the long run, song meanings are solely interpretations, and utterly subjective, so by no means to intend to offend anyone else’s perspective, as this is my own. A lot of these rock stars/song writers aren't that deep, and sometimes they 'just write'- I think this is one of those songs, but.. I'll look into it more, and keep you guys posted if I find anything along the way. (By the way, best video EVER!)Rating:
